Our Mission

The Ulnooweg Education Centre is dedicated to empowering Indigenous communities through education. We blend Indigenous knowledge with contemporary learning, focusing on areas like science & innovation, agriculture, and financial literacy.

Our goal is to educate and preserve Indigenous heritage, preparing youth and adults for a future filled with opportunities.

Major Areas of Giving

Every donation to the Ulnooweg Education Centre directly impacts the lives of Indigenous youth across our regions. From dynamic STEAM programs to cultural and language preservation initiatives, your support is vital in fostering a nurturing educational environment. Your generosity enables us to continue offering innovative learning opportunities and to expand our reach within the community. Below are our key educational programs currently making a difference.

youth kayaking at land camp

Your support helps offer free summer camps where Indigenous youth in Atlantic Canada explore STEAM learning alongside Elders, Knowledge Keepers, scientists, and industry professionals.

These immersive, land-based experiences strengthen cultural identity and open pathways to future studies and careers, all while ensuring travel, meals, and accommodations are fully covered.

Your support for the Let’s Heal the Hemlocks campaign protects and restores Nova Scotia’s ancient Eastern Hemlock forests, a vital part of the region’s natural heritage and ecological health. These forests shelter diverse wildlife, safeguard water and soil, and hold deep cultural meaning for Mi’kmaw communities.

Your contribution aids in combatting this threat and ensuring the survival of these majestic trees for the seven generations.

Your support for the Ceremony and Elder Impact Fund helps honour and sustain the guidance of Elders and Knowledge Holders in all that we do. Through gatherings and ceremony, this fund ensures that teachings, stories, and traditional practices continue to shape our work.

Your gift helps protect the cultural knowledge that connects people, community, and the land.

Year-Round Programming

Your contribution supports Indigenous youth and communities in reconnecting with the land through food sovereignty, language, and cultural teachings.

These initiatives blend Mi’kmaw knowledge systems with hands-on learning, guided by Elders and Knowledge Holders. Rooted in Netukulimk and Etuaptmumk (Two-Eyed Seeing), each program fosters a sustainable, self-sufficient agriculture future for Indigenous communities.

Your support helps protect this space, expand land-based education, and ensure Asitu’lɨsk continues to offer balance, connection, and healing for generations to come.
