Coming Soon: A Food Hub for Communities Across Mi'kma'ki
The Food Hub is a storefront, a commercial kitchen, and a space for learning, opening in Millbrook First Nation in September 2026.
What is the Food Hub?
The Food Hub is a social enterprise operated by Ulnooweg Education Centre’s Agriculture Program. It brings food, skills, and community into one permanent space.
A storefront open to everyone: The shop aims to carry fresh produce, preserves, and other goods that come out of our Agriculture Program and the communities we work with. Anyone is welcome to shop.
A certified kitchen you can rent: We are currently fundraising for a commercial-grade kitchen to help support our programming. It will also be available to local caterers, food vendors, and entrepreneurs who need a certified kitchen to build their businesses.
A space for programming: The main floor will host the majority of programs connected to food skills such as cooking, preserving, and food handling, while the lower level offers more space for larger groups.

Why a Food Hub?
A permanent space for growing food accessibility and sharing skills in Mi’kma’ki.
Nova Scotia has one of the highest rates of household food insecurity in the country, with nearly a quarter of residents living in a food-insecure household. Grocery costs reach every family.
Rooted in Mi’kmaw values and community collaboration, Ulnooweg Education Centre’s Agriculture Program works toward food sovereignty across Mi’kma’ki. We have spent years working alongside Elders and Knowledge Holders, teaching harvesting, preservation, cooking, and Mi’kmaw food language in borrowed kitchens and community halls.
The Food Hub carries that work forward and gives it a permanent home. We work alongside communities to build knowledge, skills, and opportunity, and this space brings that work together under one roof.
Support the Food Hub
The Food Hub is opening this September. Our first year of rent is covered, thanks to our friends at Feed Nova Scotia. Community support covers everything that goes inside the space.
What your donation goes toward:
- Kitchen equipment and appliances
- Shelving, refrigeration, and storefront fit-out
- Programming supplies and workshop materials
- Opening costs

Rent the Space
The Food Hub has space available for rent, whether you are building a food business or running a program of your own.
The certified kitchen will be suited to caterers, food vendors, bakers, and anyone who needs a certified kitchen to work in. The lower level offers more space for larger groups.
